Our backyard? It's kind of terrible. Especially in comparison to the backyard at our last house. Our backyard is essentially a pile of rocks and dirt. And not even nice dirt that you can dig in--rock hard dirt that breaks plastic shovels (true story). We have a patio table out there that we hardly ever use and, in an attempt to add at least a little play element to the back yard, Ryan built a teeter-totter for the boys, which they do love. We hope to do something to our backyard to make it a little more usable this summer.

I digress. This last weekend, at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday (March 30), we finally bit the bullet and on a whim decided to do something we've been wanting to do for a full year: buy a fire pit. We loaded our pajama-clad children into the car and went to Wal-Mart. We got home WAY past bedtime and convinced our somewhat disappointed that the fire pit would be even cooler the next day. The believed us, kind of.

The next night, we built our very first fire pit fire. We sat around our little fire and read stories from the Friend, then enjoyed ice cream cones. The boys were so pumped to have Ryan home (they didn't see him from Sunday night until the next Saturday night) and to have a special little family gathering. I'm looking forward to many more nights spent around the fire.
