Christmastime is Here Part 3: Graham Cracker Houses

The boys were both quite excited to build graham cracker houses this year because they remember building graham cracker houses last year! In fact, they both asked if we could build houses independent of each other. And they both wanted to be sure we had gummy bears to decorate with, since we had such success with using gummy bears last year.

I made a few missteps when it came to doing our houses this year. First, I decided to use frosting from the store rather than making royal icing because I was pretty sure that's what I did last year. That's not what I did last year. Because of the icing incident, we had a few structural mishaps but, eventually, things worked out. Misstep number two was building our houses when Lila was awake. When she wasn't stealing candy she was knocking over houses. And when she wasn't stealing candy or knocking over houses she was crying because she wasn't stealing candy or knocking over houses. Note to self: two-year-olds and graham cracker houses don't mix.

Despite the missteps, though, we had ourselves a right good time. We went for our usual pairings of Daddy + Reed and Mommy + Asher (+Lila). Asher proved to be a much improved decorator this year and was actually quite helpful. I frosted most items, which he then placed. My two favorite things about our house are the nerd food he put on the plates and the teeter totter in the back yard.

Reed and Ryan resurrected their river idea from last year and it turned out wondefully again. I also quite appreciated their fire pit outside with one spot for each of our family members.

Aaaaaaaand the houses were so fun we decided to make them with our preschool buddies! I pre-built the houses, then let them go to town with frosting and candy. They were quite pumped.
