Luck o' the Irish

I was looking through pictures on my phone the other day and realized I NEVER posted about St. Patrick's Day! How did that even happen? No one knows.

Now, I know that St. Patrick's Day is not that big of a deal to a lot of  people. But we love St. Patrick's Day! We've built a leprechaun trap every year for seven year running now. We generally eat some kind of a green food. We wear green (of course). The leprechaun often gets up to some kind of crazy hijinks on St. Patrick's Eve. This kind of big deal of course needs to be commemorated with a blog post.

We decided to try a new method for our trap this year. We bought sticky glue traps again even though they failed us last year, this time choosing a brand and testing their stickiness--they were indeed sticky. We slid the traps inside a cereal box, laid the box on it's side, and created a false ceiling above the traps using the cardboard of the box.We laid out coins as bait all over the top of our false roof, then the kids made a shamrock path for the leprechaun to follow the led him to the fridge (a plea for green milk) and then, of course, to our trap. They also used some green balloons and crepe paper to spell out "use these" in hopes that the leprechaun would decorate our house like he did last year. Then we went to bed and hoped!

The next morning, the kids found that the leprechaun had again left a trail of havoc through our house--there were balloons and streamers everywhere! There was also a note--STILL can't catch me, and elsewhere "ha ha ha." We checked the trap and somehow he'd busted out AGAIN. But he did left behind rainbow licorice and golden rollos, so we were cool with him escaping.

The boys were on track break on St. Patrick's Day, so we'd scheduled a tour of Anderson Dairy. We've gone to Anderson Dairy at least once a year since we moved here, but the kids love it every time. And this tour was extra special, because instead of getting cookies n' cream ice cream at the end of the tour (which is what they ALWAYS give), we got to choose between cookies and cream and mint chocolate chip ice cream! Green in honor of St. Patrick's Day. Lila chose cookies, but after tasting my mint wanted to trade with me. I gave in--after sneaking another bite or two of mint :)

That night, the kids got to go have a green dinner with our friends the Gourlies while Ryan and I went to a Death Cab for Cutie concert!!! The kiddos had a great time with their buddies and Ryan and I had so much fun at the concert. Seeing Death Cab was the first concert we've gone to in a really long time and it was amazing to have a date in the middle of busy season. All in all, it was a great St. Patrick's Day.
